Dr Oscar Onyebuchi-Iwudibia
Dr Oscar is the lead physician who has many years of experience in family medicine from the UK prior his recent relocation to Canada where he now calls home. He also has experience in Emergency Medicine. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Nigeria, and then worked in the UK in various specialties before doing his family medicine training and becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in the UK. Additionally he has earned an MSc in Public Health and Partnership in Care from Swansea University in the UK with distinction and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Research, Education and Leadership from Cambridge University, UK. He has held various leadership positions including being the clinical lead for NHS 111/ Out of Hours GP for Cambridge & Peterborough, UK for 3 years and is passionate about Quality Improvement Projects which aim to improve patient’s care. He also enjoys teaching and has been a clinical supervisor for junior medical colleagues for many years and a recent member of faculty of family medicine at McMaster University. Above all, he is known to be very approachable and friendly.
Dr Tobi Berchen
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Tobi Berchen, an experienced Paediatrician from the United States, to our clinic starting September 17, 2025.
Dr. Berchen has been practicing General Pediatrics for over 35 years, with a particular interest in developmental paediatrics, ADHD in children and adolescents, paediatric mental & emotional health as well as adolescence health. She shared:
“I have been happily practicing General Pediatrics for over 35 years. I have an interest in developmental pediatrics and pediatric mental and emotional health. I am moving here with my two adult sons and two rescue dogs. I love to cook, eat, grow things, enjoy the outdoors, observe wildlife, and try different types of crafting. I am looking forward to starting a new chapter, making new friends, and developing warm and wonderful relationships.”
Dr. Berchen is open to seeing the full spectrum of general pediatric patients, by referral from any family physician. Current wait times would be minimal to none.
We are grateful that she has chosen to bring her much-needed expertise to the Niagara Region, where there is a significant shortage of paediatricians.
Dr Nathaniel Olude
Dr Olude has been a family physician for 11 years. He qualified as a medical doctor in 1999 from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and has a special interest in Urology. He worked in multiple specialties ranging from surgery to acute medicine in the United Kingdom, and then completed family medicine training in the UK (2013). He is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in the UK. He is passionate about mental health wellbeing and has special interests in Quality Improvement, Adult and Child Mental Health, and Neurodiversity. He has been the lead family physician in his UK practice for many years, shaping the way the teams provide care and offering choices for patients in the community. He joined Phoenix Medical Clinic on the 3rd of June 2024 with a wealth of knowledge and clinical experience. He is currently accepting new patients!
Dr Samuel Chizia Onuekwa
Dr Onuekwa is a family physician who has over a decade of experience as a medical doctor and as a family physician in the UK before his relocation to Canada. His vast clinical experience as a doctor covers several years of working as a medical practitioner both in public and private medical practice, and ultimately as a Family Physician for which he has built a fulfilling career. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Port Harcourt, then went further to earn a Master of Public Health with Distinction from the University of Wolverhampton, UK before completing his Residency Training in the United Kingdom and awarded Member Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). He has worked in various leadership roles successfully and participated in various published research papers that focuses on optimising resources in health management to ensure better patient outcome from health care providers. He is diligent in his duties, detailed in his patient interactions and management, friendly, approachable and most importantly, focuses on patient-centered management. He joined us on the 7th of May 2024 and is accepting new patients.
Dr Ayokunmi "Kumi" Alabi
Dr Alabi is a family physician who is passionate about caring for patients and families at every stage of life. He has been a medical doctor for over 10 years. He completed his medical training in Nigeria and has specialised in Family Medicine in the United Kingdom. During his training and practice, he gained experience across a wide range of medical areas, including paediatrics, geriatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and internal medicine. This broad background helps him look at health concerns as a whole, rather than focusing on just one symptom or condition.
Dr Alabi has worked as a family physician in both medical clinics and urgent care centres, where he has cared for patients with a wide range of medical concerns. This experience has strengthened his ability to assess, diagnose, and manage both routine and urgent health issues. He brings this broad clinical experience with him to Canada to provide safe, well-rounded, and comprehensive care to his patients.
He also has an interest in preventive care and long-term health. He believes that the best care comes from working together with patients to create personalised care plans that fit their lifestyle, goals, and values.
Dr Alabi enjoys spending time with his family, staying active, travelling, and music. He values balance, wellbeing, and lifelong learning, and brings these principles into both his personal life and his approach to patient care.
Dr Ako Anyaduba
Dr. Ako Anyaduba completed his medical education at the University of Nigeria. He went on to complete his Residency Training in Family Medicine in Scotland, United Kingdom in 2012.
On completing his residency training, he took up an appointment as an GP Principal/Partner with Family Medical Group in Dundee, Scotland and also work at the Emergency Medicine units and Urgent Care Centres with NHS Tayside and NHS Fife.
Dr. Ako relocated to Red Deer, Alberta in 2015, where he worked as a Family Physician/Hospitalist/Rural Emergency Physician for about 10 years.
Dr. Ako is the present president of CANPAD (Canadian Association of Nigerian Physicians and Dentists). He is excited to be joining Phoenix Medical Clinic and will be accepting new patients.
Dr Emeka Nzenwata
Dr. Emeka Nzenwata is a board certified family physician with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario. He is a United Kingdom (UK) trained family doctor with Certification in the College of Family Physicians, Canada.
When asked about his relocation from the UK, he said
“I am excited to join the city as a family physician from November 2024 and it would indeed be my pleasure to offer medical services to the good people of Welland. I have a passion for primary care particularly in long term and acute care. Please do register with the clinic for an opportunity to be rostered with me. Looking forward to a meeting you all.”
He joined the new clinic branch at Welland on the 4th of November and comes with a wealth of experience in primary care. He is presently accepting new patients.
Dr John Ighodaro
Dr. John Ighodaro is a highly experienced Family Physician with extensive training and practice in both Family Medicine and General Internal Medicine in the United Kingdom prior to relocating to Canada.
Dr. Ighodaro graduated from the University of Benin Medical School, Nigeria, in 2005 and went on to qualify as a Family Physician in 2019. He holds multiple professional qualifications and memberships, including Certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP), Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP, UK), Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom as well as Ireland (MRCP). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (UK).
In addition, Dr. Ighodaro holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Advanced Clinical Practice from the University of Sunderland, UK.
Before qualifying as a Family Physician, Dr. Ighodaro gained broad and in-depth clinical experience across numerous medical specialties within the UK healthcare system. His training includes Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Acute Internal Medicine, Stroke Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics (Care of the Elderly), General Surgery, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), and Palliative Care.
Dr. Ighodaro has extensive experience working as a Family Physician in the UK across a wide range of settings, including urgent care centres, routine general practice, in-hours and out-of-hours services, telephone triage, NHS 111 and Kent Medical Services, Clinical Assessment Services, as well as home-visiting services. He has a strong commitment to patient safety and holds a special clinical interest in Urgent Care and Internal Medicine.
Drawing on his diverse and comprehensive clinical background, Dr. Ighodaro provides patient-centred, evidence-based care and is highly skilled in managing acute illnesses as well as short- and long-term medical conditions. He consistently adopts a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing not only on treatment but also on prevention, continuity of care, and the promotion of sustained good health.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Ighodaro enjoys travelling, reading, playing basketball, and participating in charitable activities.
Dr Donald Oboh
Dr Oboh graduated from medical school in 1999 and qualified as a family physician in 2013. He is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in the United Kingdom (UK) and also holds the Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
Prior to qualifying as a family physician, Dr Oboh worked in various specialties including pediatrics, psychiatry, internal medicine and gynaecology in the UK. He leans on this wealth of experience to craft pragmatic treatment plans and manage multiple morbidity. His aim is always to take a long term view regarding healthcare delivery. He likes to encourage patients to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being.
Outside of work, Dr Oboh is a sports enthusiast. He also loves reading about economic trends and world history.
The clinic is also pleased to welcome him and he is accepting new patients.
Dr Ademola Alabi
Dr Ademola has been practising medicine for the past 20 years.
He is a United Kingdom trained Family Physician and a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). He also holds a Certification of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
Dr Ademola had his Primary Medical Training in Nigeria, earning the MBBS degree in 2005. Dr Ademola also had a residency training in Nigeria, training in Internal medicine with specialization in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, earning the Fellowship of the West African College of Physician (FWACP) in 2015.
After relocating to the United Kingdom, Dr Ademola worked in an NHS District General Hospital rotating through the Diabetes, Care of Elderly and General Medicine units. He thereafter proceeded to train as a Family Physician.
Dr Ademola has interest in Elderly Care, Diabetes, Hypertension, Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine.
Dr Taimur Sajjad
Coming from a Doctors family, Dr. Sajjad completed his primary medical education in Pakistan, and then spent 10 years practising as Medical Doctor in the UK; where he gained wide experience in acute & emergency medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, ENT, musculo-skeletal / age-related illnesses, Adult mental health, dermatology, Men’s health etc. He also has recent expertise in weight-managing medications.
After completing his specialist training from Royal College of GP (UK), he obtained his Certification with College of Family Physicians of Canada and moved to Ontario in February 2026.
Dr. Sajjad brings an international perspective, a compassionate approach to serving the Niagara community. He believes that diversity, equity and inclusion is the key to create a welcoming environment, where patients feel heard, respected and cared for - irrespective of age, gender, color, origin or ethnicity.
Off work, he enjoys spending time with family & friends, travelling/tourism, movies, music, gaming, sports, exploring cuisines & cultures, and reading history.

Rebecca is a seasoned counseling and social work professional with over 20 years of experience supporting individuals, families, and communities through compassionate, evidence-based care. Holding a Master’s degree in Social Work (earned in 2013) and a strong background in case management, she brings deep expertise in conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and implementing therapeutic approaches that promote emotional well-being and personal growth.
Rebecca is dedicated to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives. Her practice is rooted in empathy, active listening, and strength-based strategies that help clients navigate challenges, build resilience, and achieve lasting positive outcomes.
Cherissa Matthews
Cherissa is an experienced healthcare professional who provides a high level of care to patients. She has worked in various capacities within the community over the years, including as a Personal Support Worker, before completing her nursing qualification. She is known for her compassionate care, strong critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Cherissa has a keen interest in several areas, including diabetes management and elderly care. She offers a range of medical services such as vaccinations, wound care, PAP smears, and the management of minor ailments under the medical directive of the physician.
In addition, she is highly skilled in cosmetic procedures, with a particular focus on Botox, micro-needling, and general cosmetic injections, bringing an aesthetic dimension to patient care. Her expertise in these treatments complements her clinical background, offering patients a holistic approach to both medical and cosmetic wellness.
Basilia Iwudibia
Basilia is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who obtained her medical degree in Nigeria, where she also practiced as a medical doctor before relocating to the UK and later to Canada. She brings with her a wealth of clinical experience and a strong passion for family medicine.
Having successfully completed one of prerequisite Canadian medical examinations, Basilia is hoping to begin postgraduate training in Family Medicine in the summer of 2026. In the meantime, she will be working with us as a Clinical Assistant under medical directive, supporting our physicians in delivering the high standard of care our clinic is known for.
Patients who have already met Basilia have shared very positive feedback, appreciating her approachable manner and compassionate care. She will be involved in a wide range of clinical services, including PAP smears, management of acute illnesses, and chronic disease reviews for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and COPD.
We are delighted to have Basilia on our team and look forward to the valuable contributions she will make to our patients’ care.
We have a host of other staff including medical office assistants, receptionists, phlebotomist as well as senior administrator/ manager
who prefer to remain behind the scene but their efforts are indispensable to the running of our clinic as we continue to deliver excellent patient care. We are fortunate to have such a cohesive team.
